on Good Friday

It’s Good Friday, guys!  In the Philippines, it is considered as holiday – non-working holiday for that matter.  There is going to be many church activities commemorating the death of Jesus.  My family there surely has “bibingka” or flat cake and sweet rice cake to eat for the whole day.  I truly miss celebrating the Holy Week in the Philippines with my family.  I hope to experience it again with my hubby and my girl someday.

Anyway, what is Good Friday?  What do Christians celebrate on Good Friday?

Good Friday is observed on the Friday before Easter Sunday. On this day Christians commemorate the passion, or suffering, and death on the cross of the Lord, Jesus Christ.  Many Christians spend this day in fasting, prayer, repentance, and meditation on the agony and suffering of Christ on the cross.

The biblical account of Jesus death on the cross, or crucifixion, his burial and his resurrection, or raising from the dead, can be found in the following passages of Scripture: Matthew 27:27-28:8; Mark 15:16-16:19; Luke 23:26-24:35; and John 19:16-20:30.

Hopefully we can reflect on the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross for our sins to be washed away.  Have a meaningful Good Friday all and enjoy basking God's blessings for the rest of the Holy Week.
